Campaign Story
About the project
Harda district in Madhya Pradesh is home to over 50 indigenous tribes, many of whom continue to face daily struggles for survival due to the denial of basic human rights and equal opportunities. The health of women and children in these communities is especially at risk, with high rates of malnutrition and anemia further worsening their condition. Food scarcity, poor sanitation, and limited access to quality healthcare have created a crisis situation, leading to alarmingly high rates of child and maternal mortality.
Making a difference
CRY America’s Project Synergy Sansthan is dedicated to improving healthcare access and providing nutritional support to women and children across 10 villages in Harda district. Key activities under the project include identifying and registering pregnant and lactating women at Anganwadi Centers, promoting institutional deliveries, and ensuring nutrition and immunization support for newborns and mothers. The project also conducts regular awareness sessions on hygiene and sanitation.
Another important focus area is the formation of Mothers’ Groups, Children’s Collectives, and Adolescents’ Collectives to raise awareness about maternal and child mortality, while also addressing critical issues like malnutrition and anemia.
The way forward
● Track 52 pregnant women to ensure ANC check-ups, immunization, receipt of Iron Folic Acid tablets, and encourage them to opt for institutional deliveries
● Ensure 100% immunization of 176 children aged 0–1 year by collaborating with 9 ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists), 2 ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), and 9 Anganwadi Workers (AWWs)
● Conduct 16 awareness generation activities for children, AAA (ASHA, ANM, AWW) workers, and adolescent girls to encourage the adoption of WASH practices
● Organize 2 health camps and 2 training sessions to address child and maternal health issues
● Monitor the growth of 538 children aged 0–5 years
● Conduct 2 food demonstration and feeding practice sessions in collaboration with Children’s and Adolescent Collectives
● Orient 20 youth volunteers across 10 villages on community health issues
● Ensure implementation of 10 community action projects on health designed by youth volunteers
● Strengthen 10 Adolescent Collectives to sensitize the community on various health concerns
